Thiers Issard tang mark V
I recently bought a Thiers Issard - 6/8, mirror on the gold wash side w/ buffalo, satin on the back, buffalo horn scales (very nice!) but the very different thing about this razor is a large V stamp on tang (on the satin side). Can anyone here please tell me what the V means??
Thanks!

You lucky guy
kbuzbee;
What you have there is one of the previous generation 'new steel' forgings from Thiers-Issard. My understanding of the matter is that TI razors using that steel are just beginning to trickle into the US market. That is the first generation of new forgings which use an improved, high-carbon surgical-grade tool steel (1.2% carbon content). That "V" on the reverse of the tang was stamped in to identify which heat treatment batch in which that razor was processed. The hardness of that blade is around 62-63 Rockwell. I've got one also and it is a sweet little shaver (although yours sounds like it is a bit fancier than mine).

Thanks! I suspected that was the indication (though I lacked the specifics you provided!). Haven't yet put razor to face, but will soon and post my impressions. This was an evolution of the blades they already carried. In fact the older and newer ones were mixed in together and priced identically. I assume that is what we can expect from all the current lines from all the vendors, over time??
I forgot to mention, the tang is subtly differt, looking very much like the Silverwing photos you published on B&B.
Appreciate the info!

Well, I tried the new "V" today. Took it from the box. 50 strops on the red paste and 100 on the black. 100 on the leather and my "regular" prep. It gave my best shave yet. Smooth. I honestly didn't think it was cutting anything - 'til I felt the result. Pretty smooth after one pass. Very smooth after two (but I could feel and hear it this direction). I still touched up my "problem" areas (under nose and chin) with the cartridge but I didn't really "have" to. Sweet shave!

Actually, they were recommended to me on the forum, Lehman's. Fascinating store. Largest collection of cast iron cookwear I've ever seen. All the way to tractors. They're in Ohio Amish country.

I had found this site earlier when the prices were lower on the razors.
The site did not indicate that the razors are TI or maybe I missed something. It only said made in France ( I should have guessed TI and purchased one when the prices were lower) crap!!

Agreed. It's the same 6/8 horn razor classicshaving sells (okay, different logo, it's Bison) but for $40 less it WAS quite a deal. Ah well, nothing lasts forever I suppose. I guess I was just lucky to catch a V after they updated the stock but before they raised the price.
