He was definitely thinking ahead with his conservation efforts.
Yes he was one of a few at that time in America with the foresight to save wild places. Am reading one of his biorgraphies right now: The Wilderness Warrior."

The blade is etched with the date of September 14, 1901, the date McKinley died and T.R. became President.

Here is an old post about a razor I purchased for 10 or $15. The seller threw in the box as an afterthought. No mention was made about the inscription on the box, I did not notice it until I got home.

Roosevelt did spend a couple years in the Badlands during that time, after the death of his mother and wife. It was his time in the Badlands that spurred his passion for creating the National Parks System, historians say.

I have left the razor and case as I found them.

    T. Roosevelt Torrey razor?

What a fantastic surprise you got with that $10! Great story behind it I'm sure. Could have come from the proprietor of the hotel he stayed at. You might check with the T.R. Center online databank of TR history. They actually had a picture of a razor similar to mine. From what I've read you are right, the Badlands played a very significant role in him recovering from his grief and developing the parks as well as the kind of man he would become. Love this TR lore!
