Thanks, Jerry/Gasman!
It's past time to thank my benefactors, Gasman and Steve56. Jerry heard that I was a fellow driver from Steve and newbie to straight razor shaving. Jerry took me under his wing and, along with Steve, got me set up with both a beginner and a vintage straight. Both of these guys have been endlessly patient with my silly questions and panicked messages about inconsequential matters (how to shave, strop, hone, replace blood, tie tourniquets, etc).
I'm really enjoying the journey and I have you (two) to thank.

Your welcome brother. Its fun to help guys out along the road to a fine straight razor shave. Just keep it up and dont give up. After a few months things will start coming together and the smooth shaves will get more and more often. When I started S.R. shaving i found the Imperial razors to be my favorites so I collected a bunch of them. Glad to be able to hook you up with one.

An antique store near me sent me an email with pics that they had a few SRs come in. The pics showed 3, closed...couldn't see anything about how the blades looked, what condition the scales were in, etc. I requested a pic with the blade open on the one that looked like it might be okay from what I could see of the spine.
The pic I got was of her hand, gingerly holding the SR open, zoomed in on the scales/tang/pivot (hinge?)
Still no idea what condition the blade was in, make model, nothing. I do know they're asking $6.50/each. I'm not going down there, but I did thank her for contacting me.
Since I have 2 SRs, I need a strop upgrade more than I need another straight. And more films. And more soap. And another brush.
........awww crap.

Don't be so hesitant, if its not that far from home. I've been surprised more than a few times, with cheap sales.
Some folks just don't know what their selling.Last edited by outback; 02-23-2020 at 03:25 AM.

Yep. Im with Mike. If its close enough for a quick drive across town id go check. At that price a set of horn scales would be worth the couple bucks for when you start restoring. Yep! Watch out for that hole too.

Hey slim, here's what can happen, from a call I got from my local antique shop.
Several of those razors are worth more than what I paid, for all of them.Mike
