    Default Let's see your heirloom

Maybe this has been done before but I didn't see any threads on it. Maybe I've just been noticing it more but I've seen a number of posts recently about heirlooms. What a great thing to have. I know I love mine. It always makes me think about my dad who I lost a few years ago, got to hold his hand while he took his last breaths. I'm fortunate to have the razor and the memories to go with it.
    Anyway here's mine.

My Dad's J.A. Henckels 401. He had it in an ERN box but I got an original box in mint condition for it. I think this may have been my grandfather's. He died when I was 7 and I don't remember my dad having it before that. I shaved with it as a teenager. When I got it after he died it had some rust and needed a lot of love. Now it is one of my most prized possessions period.
So let's see them, be it razors or any shaving related stuff.

Edit: and of course let's hear their story. That is what makes them dear to the heart.

The checkered razor in the middle was my grandfathers and is from a local distributor. The other items are ones I've collected from the same distributor.

You know . It occured to me that maybe this thread belongs in the show and tell forum. That way it can include things besides razors.

That's awesome Roy. It's nice to have it looking Sharp like that. I keep hearing people say, and rightly so, don't learn to do restoration on your heirloom. I did my dad's before I knew any better. Fortunately I didn't mess it up. That's a beautiful old Wade & Butcher though. I don't think I've ever seen a W/B I didn't like.

I've got that same razor! VERY cool that you've got the matching strop!!

You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

Nice Shaun. I see where you got the love for Henckels from. Great grandfather's? Wow! That's a long chain.

Don't forget everyone. Tell us the story too. Every razor has a story. After all, that's what drew.many.if.nit most of us to straight shaving.

Although I know nothing about it - this is my favorite razor from my Dad. I sure wish I could ask him questions about all the blades he left behind.Name: Silver Steel.jpg

The story is quite simple. It was poorly stored in one of my fathers parts bins. So when I was 14 I liberated it from him. I convinced the cranky old military barber to hone it for me. I used it to shave all twelve of my whiskers for some time, and stropped it on a belt. Then when I was twenty ish, I grew a beard. Then when I started at my current job, I needed to be clean shaven. The multi blades and gel gave me a rash. I went on the interweb and discovered information that led me down a long series of rabbit holes, and here we are.
