    I can only guess it was a trade mark of model number.

    I wonder if, after the purchase of the brand by Joseph Allen, the Joseph Smith brand could be used? Or was the razor manufactured no later than 1887?

    To judge from its style, it was most surely made before 1887, and definitely before 1891.

    Yeah, I would concur with that. Almost certainly before 1887. Probably closer to 1870s or earlier

    3415 was the company trade mark. In 1878 the trade mark 3415 and Joseph Smith & Sons Celebrated Razors was acquired by Joseph Allen.

    I have the same razor, same markings (Joseph Smith & Sons, Celebrated Razor & 3415) in similar honey horn scales that are more rounded and is a great shaver, one of my favorites.
