Default Any info on this Gem Razor. Its not what you think.

    eBay item.
I had to do some straightening of the scales and clean a little rust off the blade. The pin holes were buggered up a bit but I was able to save the scales. Polished the scales and blade and put a 1k edge on it. Had to rework the edge because of chips and cut the heal down for better honing. Half Hollow, 6/8.

But as you can see it's a GEM. #114, made in England. No marks or stamps on the opposite side of the tang. Does anyone have any clues to the maker or dating?

    Nobody? Well I'll be...
It acts like a standard Sheffield. Meaning a little bent but the grind looks good so far.
Still habe to get it on the stones but ran out of time. Maybe next week.

If it doesn't say made in England or Sheffield steel it could be made anywhere. It just says best English steel.

Well I found this Jerry. It's from The Strand Magazine from 1904.

Not a straight but it is a razor called the gem and they use the phrase "best English steel."

I have one of those Gems. But i hadnt realised they used the term "best English Steel". That does push it in that direction. Thanks for pointing this out.
