Eyre Challenge Razor
I picked up a quarter hollow B.J. Eyre "Challenge" razor off the Bay. Assuming it's not a reproduction, it would date prior to 1880. I paid more for it than I do a usual E-bay find, but was quite taken by the engraving.
It's in remarkable shape and top notch craftsmanship. It will need a bevel set to be a shaver, but almost no hone wear. Scales are translucent, assuming they are original an early plastic? I don't think they are worked horn. Razor closes centered and pins are tight.

Thanks Bob! Now you've got me researched pick bone...
I knew the scales weren't bakelite and was wondering if they were a later add, but based on that they could very well be original.Last edited by HungeJ0e; 07-18-2020 at 10:09 AM.

That razor should provide a lovely smooth shave when honed. Good stuff.

Nice! Are the scales pressed horn? They look more like that than bone from here.
Great find!

Here's some shots to show the translucence. I suppose it could be horn. I've certainly never had a scale like this.
