Nice video of razor manufacture in Sheffield, bonus shaving at the end. These old boys didn't mess around.

Aloha!
Great video. Thanks for posting that. I'm not sure why I do, but I love watching shaving videos. And the manufacture portion was interesting.
The gentleman shaving at the end reminded me of my Grandfather (long rest his soul). He raised a family during the great depression, so his shaving den consisted of his kitchen table, a straight razor (an old Solingen that I still have), Ivory soap, a mug, a brush, a basin and a cheap drugstore table mirror. Simple but effective. Watching my grandfather shave gave me the desire to master a straight razor."I get some lather and lather-up, then I get my razor and shave! Zip Zop, see that? My face Is ripped to shreads!"

I saw that a long while back. Seems he was one of the last Sheffield masters.

He did mention the name at the end, Sellars or Southers, couldn't make it out too well though. His dismissal of shaving soap was funny too, it actually inspired me to try shaving with some carbolic soap which was a staple in England for many decades. Wasn't a bad shave to be fair.

Love that. He reminded me of my Dad (miss you Dad). Simple old guy like ZipZop mentioned except raised in the Great Depression. I too still have his old J.A. Henckels 401. Used it not long ago. I too found the thing about the soap interesting. I often use regular old lye soap. It's not a real bubbly, foamy lather but very slick for a long time.
I still remember being a little boy watching my dad shave and him swiping my face with the brush giving me a lather streak. We would both laugh and laugh. God I miss himLast edited by PaulFLUS; 10-05-2020 at 10:40 AM.
