Thread: Best Str8 Blade Size For Newbie

I like the sounds of a 6/8 or 7/8 and love the look of the square tip. But I do have a nagging question going through my head. When describing 5/8, 6/8 etc etc is that the length or width of the blade?
I take it those are measures of an inch, can someone do the math for me and convert those measurements into CM's for me

this is the width in inches. google can always do the math for you type in
5/8in in cm and see what happens....










see, now, how's that for a search engine
(5/8) in = 1.5875 centimeters

(6/8) in = 1.90500 centimeters

(7/8) in = 2.2225 centimeters

(8/8) in = 2.54 centimeters

(9/8) in = 2.8575 centimeters (Ilija)
(12/8) in = 3.81 centimeters (JLStorm)

(I only have 5/8 so I can't vote)

Here is a page that has */8 to cm conversion. The size is the length from the spine to the edge.

Now thats some interesting stuff. I had a look around, though didn't find the 1 last piece of info that I don't have.
How come the length (Not width) of the blade is sometimes long and some times short? Is this an important factor for newbies to consider?

Inches vs centimeters is all well and good, but how many Angstroms is that and why do Dovo and TI sell /eigths razors? If all were right with the world wouldn't a Euro company sell 16mm and 19mm razors?

I think while there's a big difference in how a 5/8 vs 7/8 feels, there isn't that much difference if another eigth of an inch is added to the length of the blade.

And there's usually not that big of a difference in blade lenght, is there?
