Default Shemeld & Co / "Rocket" razors

I have been trying to find a Shemeld straight razor for a few years. This is my surname, which is quite rare and there is little known about the family history apart from these razor makers, so the possibility of owning one would mean something to me. Instead of waiting on one to eventually come up on eBay I thought I would try approaching some collectors that maybe open to selling one?

I have never heard of them, but at one point there were a lot of razor makers. There are books with hundreds of makers I have never heard of. However just because that was the makers name does not mean that was the name the razor was marketed under. A lot of people had marks that were not the makers name. Have you found out any of the marks they used? There are some very good historians around here that could likely help you research that.

There are Gillette 'Rocket' razors from England back in the day.
I wonder if your Shemeld and Co was a retailer who sold Gillette Rocket razors with their name on the razor or on the packaging?

Never heard of the name before but here's a post that is quite interesting.

I hope you find one. If you post in the BST too it may help https://sharprazorpalace.com/want-buy-want-trade/

The name was stamped on the tang of the blade

Here is some info on a Sheffield History Forum I found as well. Coincidentally this is the main town in the UK you are likely to come across anyone with this surname.

Its 6/8, was 7/8, but hone wear and years have taken some away. Still a great shaver.

Was one of the first bunch of razors I acquired, when I started collecting and restorations, some years ago

    My first in Sheffield steel.

Joseph featured a Shemeld razor in one of his videos. Even showed that same pic you found of the factory with 'Rocket' painted on front of the building. Trying to provide a link but I struggle.

    Hopefully it works

I just checked Joseph's website and he currently has the Shemeld listed for sale.

The razor you're looking for, restored by one of SRP's finest!!
