Thanked: 2Thanks, rust under gold plating always sucks. Under studio light they may look very clean but to the eyes one can see the remains of the old deposits. You can never achieve perfect results with gold plating. For the second one I had to remove the gold plating totally because the spots where the rust were made it look far too blotchy and I didn't like it. Looked much better with the useless gold gone.
For the first one I used a mild rust removal solution. First tried ballistol and wd-40, which can work sometimes, but the rust was old and stubborn. So I used the professional remover. Applied it many times with q tips until all the rust deposits are gone. Rust remover leaves a darker oksidized look on the old rusted spots, but oh well it's either that or total gold removal again.
