Default Clegg/William Talbot Dragoon Guards /another celluloid outgassing victim

    Dear fellow enthusiasts,

I opened another box I had in storage, and found this Clegg/William Talbot heavy 7/8 razor damaged by outgassing, another razor was also slightly damaged, but will clean up.This one is badly damaged and strongly corroded and the cutting edge may be to far gone.It was a nice razor but not that great a shaver.I am attaching photos of it, and its cellmates.I will post some photos when I finish the rework.Kindest Regards Gary
The other damaged razor is a large Tally Ho( it will clean up)Name: Clegg Sheffield William Talbot Dragoon Guards 2012 01 01 3.jpg

    A nice box of razors!

Did you purchase them in that condition or have they been cleaned up after you received them?

No I restored all of these and made most of the scales, back when I used to do this kind of stuff in my younger days.I am trying to go through them all now.I hope to finish this year, two boxes are done ,41 to go.Kindest regards and best wishes to you .I may see about registering to sell some of these here in case you guys see any you might be interested in.I will check in with the Moderators later and find out about the rules

Just read about the rules in our library. Its not too big of a read. Plus its a good thing to read all the rules once anyway when being a member here.

Nice lot of razors for sure. Too bad about the damage.

It’s unfortunate that the razor was so badly damaged by cell rot, but it is an excellent record of what can happen when you put a razor with celluloid scales into storage. You can’t predict when it will start off gassing, only that it eventually will and can take neighbouring metal with it.

Thats right at what point do they go bad, its impossible to predict they sit there for 100 years no problem then something set them off,any way thats what it seems like to me.Incidentally,I reworked that one last night and it came out ok,just lost the engraving.I will post some pictures later Regards Gary
