This is the final layout of some of the razors I had in storage since 2003 they came out in pretty good shape except some that had been stored in a famous rust inhibitor,it acid stained the blades around 12 of them I buffed it off with black emory. The blades stored in camellia oil came out perfect.I have a guy that wants to buy these at a lot type sale ,so I may sell them.Dont know for sure yet
What would you do? Check out the one on second row all the way left

    Hey Gary!

I currently have 30 straight razors. Out of those thirty, I have two modern day ones from Dovo (they were gifts). All the rest are vintage and antique ones. I shave with every one of those razors. I am of the opinion that straight razors are tools that should be used. I say sell them to someone who will appreciate them, take care of them and use them often!

    Just my thoughts....

I shave with a vintage sheffield every time I shave .Im 76 years old so my beard is sparse and thinner now and I only need to shave every 3-4 days.I have been shaving with a straight for almost 60 years ,and I still enjoy the ritual I stopped when I went away to college in England for 6 years but then took it back up.I also have 4 razors from around 1800-1805 that are still shave ready cast steel they will give a very comfortable shave ,but dont hold an edge for so long.I like a big wedge 8/8 or bigger
Thanks for your comments and my kindest regards Gary

Quite the collection there, Gary. It’s a shame you didn’t join SRP sooner, you have some wonderful razors and a lot of experience.

If I counted correctly you have 57 blades shown. I would select out 2-3 that really appealed to me, fix them up, and keep them.
The rest of them I would let go..... if the money was adequate.

BTW, that razor on the second row left appears to be a bit large!
...and the razor just below it seems about the same size.

The smiler in the middle of that row isn’t too shabby either. You sure do seem to like bigger blades.

That is quite an amazing collection. I agree with the folks who suggest sending it off to someone who will appreciate them at a fair price. That price should be substantial given the nature of the collection and the condition of the blades.

Thank you for the observation about storing razors using camellia oil for almost 20 years. There has been some discussion about the best long term storage of razors and it’s extremely important to have direct observational evidence that compares two possible strategies.
