I don't actually know why they're called singing razors, they definitely make noise but its not a sound that I could hum along to. Unless my face is out of tune of course

For some reason I thought that the 'singing' term referred to the noise produced by some finely ground razors when being stropped. Not the scraping noise when shaving. But of course I may be wrong

It is that too. That term is used rather loosely to mean a sound that the blade makes when in use of any kind. Some of my wide singers sing when honing, stropping and shaving.

The comment was mostly made in jest anyway. The blades do ring when the edge gets plucked or stropping so I thought that is what it originally referred to.

I really like it, when the razor makes a clear high sound when you hit the end of the tail shortly on a metal or stone surface. If then the sound "stands" for a second or two or even longer, that makes a perfect singing razor for me. Like this Werner Breidenbach special:

    Stay sharp and "singing" !
