Got a new to me razor and I can't find anything about it, seems good steel, geometry seems ok to.. blades about 20mm 13/16

    Lasso?

    Lassos?

    I have no idea..

    I know what "garantie Solingen"means.

    Any info much appreciated.

Looked thru what I've got on hand....no luck.

Its pretty typical for 1920s- 50s from my understanding. Should be a dandy shaver for the rotation.

It may say Lassy. Maybe a pic without the shadow near the pivot.

Tang stamps are nice, but don't mean much in the old generic razor world most of the time.
Some better pics of the blade would be nice.
For example, I might say it's junk by the 1st pic.
    2nd looks pretty promising.

    This way and that?

Cheers guys, this is what I kinda thought here's some more.

It had some micro nicks near the point so I bread knifed and tried to profile the edge to the back, I think it came out ok?

Bread knifed on DMT, put some tape on and the bevel is not meeting but looks even and coming together nice, I'll take some photos before I proceed. Onto my finest DMT to join the edge then onto my #2000, get the scratches mostly out then take the tape off #2000re set bevel again and then through the stones.

I have a Lasso French brand with trademark acquired on 19/08/1948 (1948-08-19 if you prefer) by SARL (French acronym for LLC) Georges DUBOST in Thiers.

Kinds of checks out, post WW2 French steel was crap for a few years and people would rather buy German razors at the time. Garantie Solingen is a way of saying "the steel is of good quality"
You will find French brands imitating German brands like Widerstahl or even Sreiht because Thiers backwards sounds so much more German.
Beautiful is important, but when all is said and done, you will always be faithful to a good shaver while a bad one may detter you from ever trying again. Judge with your skin, not your eyes.

Looks like a shorty. Sounds like you have your work mapped out. Let us know how you do.

Agreed, it looks to have been shortened with the nose being angled in a bit.
Still, with the width even and the hone wear moderate, it should turn out well.

Yep. Too bad about the tip. But it looks to be a nice blade.

I was thinking about the tip as well, I'll likely re profile it to a Irish kind of point. Looks odd going to way it does..

So it maybe french using German steel? It seems like a nice blade so see were it goes.

Cheers I'll check out that archive.

Will do, give me a week got a lot on..
