This country isn't that old, in comparison to Europe. It was a dog eat dog, life. You relied on your gun to provide food for the table, as well as protection from vermin. Two or four legged. Not much has changed, for some. The State of Ohio, where I live. We carry guns all the time. And without a permit, even. About 6 guns per person, is average. But that was a statistic some time ago. Grown exponentially, lately.
Part of our life n heritage, here. I'm about at the point in my life, that I need to hand down my family's shot gun. It's been passed down thru the generations, but I have no son to grant it to. I'll have to search another branch, find out who's young, and hunt's, and will pass it to the next.
I have no idea what year the picture is from, but the man on the right, is one of my descendents, Euel Hoskins. He's holding the gun that's in my hands in the pic, above. Thats one of my graduation pictures from highschool. 1987.
I'm not a hillbilly or a redneck. I'm what'd ya call a, hilljack. That's a educated redneck, that ain't married to kin.Mike

@outback and @PaulFLUS at least the upside to living in a small country is that we don't have far to travel to find someone outside our own family to indulge in sexual relationships!?! Not that it doesn't happen mind you, kind of get the impression some people don't have any option if you know what I mean!?!
@outback always like to hear family stories and hear of stuff being handed down through generations and still being used especially when accompanied by a photo! I too have no one to pass on of my possessions onto which is a shame as if I don't specify somebody or organisation the State will claim it, which the idea of annoys me greatly!!!
@PaolFLUS thanks for the tips and the link I have my eye on a Jiseph Rodgers and Sons which appears in pretty reasonable condition and a low starting bid!?! Down side is that there are about 25 people watching it with 3 days to go so it has the potential to go for silly money, but one can hope!?! The only down side with the only down side with W&B link is I would not be able to work on it at present in fear of killing what someone like yourself could make it into! If the price was a bit lower would look at something like this to either stick in a drawer for later ventures or send out!?! Oh to DreamWhat we have here is a Failure to Communicate!

Here's one you'd probably like.
That's a V crown R Wade & Butcher hollow ground, square point with a thumb notch. It even has black scales although they are not original and I plan to replace them with horn...or bone.
It still needs a little cleaning up but that's a great example of what you're looking for.
Oh, I am such a cruel, cruel man.Last edited by PaulFLUS; 01-03-2024 at 11:52 PM.

Think I am having to re- assess desired W&B Razor!?! I may have started this thread a bit naively, yesterday I spent a little time on the Internet looking at different W&B Razors and blade shapes. I just couldn't cope seeing some of these extremely nice examples, and was definitely drawn to the larger Barbers Notch type, somehow to me at least they just look more impressive and a STAND OUT Razor being different from the norm!?!
When I'm off on Friday I will have another look at some W&B Images and post what kind of blade appeals to me, then you can tell me if it's a Pipe dream or not!?! :rofl2What we have here is a Failure to Communicate!

You mean like this big ol' joker?
Rightly so because they are a treat to use and even just to handle. Get your pocketbook ready though as they are pricey and the price just keeps going up. I paid almost $300 for this one looking like this.
Today I wouldn't even consider selling it for less than 2-3 times that. That's stupid money that I wouldn't pay.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

I remember that razor Paul. You did a great job repairing that big ass chip and cleaning up steel and scales. Looks great.
