Default Ca glue on celluloid scales

Recently acquired a straight that the scales have been repaired with what appears to be super glue. Will this promote off gassing. Hate to get the cell rot conversation started again, just not sure what effect the ca glue has on the celluloid.

I have no definitive answer but, sadly, I'm not sure anyone does. As you are probably aware "cell rot," is not well understood or even accepted. My personal opinion (take that for what you paid for it) is that it is related to moisture. My advice is to keep it as dry as possible. Desicant packets are a must in razor storage IMHO. Again, remember what you paid for that information.

Ca never seems to work well on celluloid so it may be something else. If you are concerned about it you might just replace them. I personally can't shake those doubts once they start so that shades my advice.

Good luck with finding better answers. I would certainly love to hear real information on the topic.

Yep, replace those scales if it's causing you that much discomfort and worry! You will thank yourself later or you could just leave the scales on and worry about it for a year. Like Paul said, "What's it worth?"

I did not think ca worked very well on celluloid either, maybe it’s not celluloid . Don’t know how long it’s been on there but seems to be solid. I will just quarantine it for a while. Thanks for the input and help

If you rub the scales briskly and hard it will smell like camphor if it is celluloid.
