What are some under rated brands of SRs that come in size 6/8 I read that there were barber supply razors made by name brand companys but stamped with the supply companies name. What supply companies and are they hard to find?

Run, and save, an eBay search for 6/8 straight razor. Do the same for 3/4 straight razor. Look at the results carefully on a daily basis and watch or bid on the ones that meet your criteria.

Most hardware or barber supply shops did not want the manufacturers of the razors they sold to be known, they wanted people to buy their "Brand" and not the same manufacturer found at a different store. I have seen some brands that do identify the maker though.

If a razor is marked as Made in Germany, you can be relatively certain it is a quality razor.

That's very true but there are some exceptions. I have a Hart Hardware razor that is, in reality a Pipe Razor. I got it for $10 on ebay just for knowing what to look for and spotting it first.

It has the Hart etch on the blade face but also the pipe on the tang on one side..


And the Wostenholm stamp on the other.


Also, a good indicator is the Böker tree. Even on the razors they made for contract they often put their tree somewhere on the tang.
