    Default Razor Treatment

Is it good practice to apply the oil I was given with my strop to the blade to stop it from rusting.

I don't oil my razors but I do oil my "New" carbon steel kitchen knives till a patina has formed.

The oil I have never had problems with is a food safe mineral oil, sold as a laxitive. Depending on your area and humidity oils can be a good thing or just a waste of time.

I'm sure others will pop in soon with their experiences.

Mineral oil's a cheap way to protect the blade if necessary. I just wipe my blades down with alcohol after each shave. No rust issues.

I don't know how th oil that came with the strop may react with your skin. I wouldn't use it on the blade. I don't oil my razor unless they are going into storage or won't be used for a while. If its humid where you live, try mineral oil as suggested already. Oh, and be sure to dry your razors well after each use and let them air dry for a bit before putting them away.
