Thanked: 105laser etched blade
This was an old rusty blade. This is my first attempt at laser etching a straight razor. My next project is making a pair of laser engraved scales to go with this blade. When they are done I will post them.
Your oppinions are welcomed.

Is that like the photo etching thing I've heard of? Looks good, How deep and durable is the etching?

Thanked: 105part two of laser
To answer your question, the etching is very durable. It will with stand cleaning and light buffing. It is suspose to with stand most house hold chemicals.I have not tried to clean, rub,or sand it off yet. It is not cut into the steel , but etched onto it by the heat of the laser.
As for part 2 here is a laser engraved scale, which is cut into the wood.

Ooooooooooooooooooo! Sweeet! Does the blade get hot from the etching, enough to affect the temper? The mind boggles at the possibilities!!!! The scales are cool too...and I was thinking it would be interesting to laser etch a patern for scales, but on the inside of a scale mold, then cast them in resin....

Thanked: 105The laser dose not heat the blade to affect the temper. you can pick it up and touch it the second that it is finished. yes the possibilities are end less.
