    Default The 1000

I have spotted a 'The 1000' Sheffield Steel straight in an atiques store. I am sure I have read somewhere that they are a good razor but I can't remember where! Can anyone tell me anything about them. No rust on the blade and looks to be in good condition although there is a lot of wear on the back. Are they a good shave and what would be a good price to pay?

    Cheers

I think Lynn shows a razor with "1000"on it in his DVD and commented very favorably on it. Don't remember who made it.

    Mate

They were made by Taylor in Sheffield and were (are) a great razor

Im scratching my head trying to remember who else here has one... i think it's either bruno or firestart... but i do remember them saying that it was among the best shavers they own.

I have one myself only when i got it there was a chip out of the toe of the balde and i havent got around to resolving that yet... so i cant tell you what it shaves like.

I have one but I haven't tried it yet.. Too many projects on the bench. However, a 6/8 TEW 3-pin round point is my top shaver and I have another TEW (a Joe Chandler re-grind) on the project bench. You'll never go wrong with their razors and they really make me want to try their cutlery (yeah, they're still around but not making razors any more).

    Thanks.

I have just checked out Lynn's DVD and The 1000 is the razor he uses to demonstrate restoration and he is complimentary about its shave. So back to the Antiques Store for me!

The second razor in my collection!

    Cheers

I have on of them and it is a great razor. You can get an amazing edge on that razor in no time and it shave fabulous. Really easy to hone. It rust quite fast so be carefull.

I have a Taylor "Witness" 1000 razor. It's approximately 3/8" and I think a quarter hollow grind which gives the smaller blade extra weight. It came in a hinged metal box rather than a cardboard coffin. It took a good edge and shaves really well although it's taken a back seat lately because of recent additions to the collection. Hmmm... maybe I ought to take it out again...
