    Default New TIs

Hey, does anyone have any news on the next-generation TIs? When they'll be available and so on?

This is taken off this site:

    Silverwing Limited Editon

You see a pre-production modell of the new Silverwing razor.
It is made from the finest and best carbon steel and has an amazingly high content of carbon. (really good carbon steel contains 1% of carbon. This steel has 1.35% carbon!)

New forging dices have been designed and made to make the razor thinner and even more straight.
Some people had the honor to test this beautiful razor and all of them agreed: "This is the best razor Thiers Issard has ever made."
The tail of this blank is a bit longer than from the old one. So there is more space for larger fingers.
Due to a new hardening process the back of the razor is a bit "softer" than the edge. Thus is giving the razor's back more flexibility and more sharpness and shaves to the edge.
The hardness is around 65 Rockwell (The "older" new blanks are around 60-62 Rockwell.)

The exact details are not known by now but because of the very beautiful mirror polish (which is even brighter than usual) we do not want to have it coverd by an etching.
There will be no etching on the blade.
The blade is thinner than from its predecessors.

The razor shaves really smooth and close and it will stay sharp for a very long time.

The scales will be made from a very fine Cocobolo (Dalbergia Retusa) a tropical hardwood and the Silverwing shall be delivered in a very nice wooden box.
The color from the Cocobolo will be a beautiful orange-red with black veines.
Is it planed to produce only 250-300 pieces and every Silverwing will be numbered and will get a nice inlay to the scales.

    18th September Update:

It will be a dark wooden box in the shape of the scales. The inside will be covered with a nice fabric.
The lid will have the same Silverwing inlay like the scales and will probably be hold by tiny magnets. Both inlays, on the scales and on the box, will have the same number.
The delivering date will be the beginning of November 2007. (Due to a an accident in the family of one worker, the production is a bit behind schedule.)
We are giving you the opportunity to pre-order the Silverwing now.
The photos you see are made from the pre-production modell with blond horn. (In the back you see the new Thiers Issard Superbadger brush.)

and a response from ClassicShaving (sent Sept 13)

ClassicShaving.com will be receiving all of the new products from TI. We just don’t believe in taking your money first before we have received the merchandise. It is our strong belief that your money serves you better in your pocket! However we will be putting names on a mailing list to inform you when those “new” products will be available. Our prices will be competitive and our stock will be plentiful for our dedicated customers. The Silverwing should be in our inventory within the next two months.

All I can say is that I want one, but I'm not paying more than the current price of the TI's...

    superfly,

Of which of the current TI's will you not exceed the price? We have among our choices from Classic Shaving old Pierre's personally hammered blades for a modest $430 USD and the Genuine Damascus with Blond Horn Scales for a more serious $900 USD. Rumor has it that you are in luck as the new improved model is suppose to be even cheaper than the TIPTLE itself. Ain't it grand when luck is your lady?

I'm saving my pennies. Of course the way the dollar is heading, that could be an exercize in fultility - like trying to perfect honing

    cheers, Bruce

Trying to perfect honing is not an exercise in futility - it is a quest for perfection, and quite within your grasp. On the other hand, hoping that the dollar will appreciate in value is an exercise in futility.

As I am understanding the new TI razors, they are made with the process that will replace their existing one. I am not considering them exotic model of their line, so I think (if it makes sense to price someone's else work) that they should cost as much as their existing "Sheffield Steel" line with respective scales, around 150$ for 5-6/8's razor with simpler scales...
