Thiers Issard - help please
I really fancy buying a Thiers Issard razor, well in fact looking I quite fancy all of them , I am particularly interested in the historical razors made from old blanks.
Has anyone any experience of buying from this site:- http://www.rasurpur.de/english/
You see, I can’t tell if this is Thiers Issard’s official web site or is this just a source?
The two I fancy are:-
7/8 Black Horn
And the:-
6/8 Aigle - Eagle - Red Stamina
Has anyone got one, and also what are the historical razors like in general?
Thanks

i'm not sure what would 'official' mean, but i'm pretty sure they are one of the vendors in europe, meaning they get their stuff directly from TI and if you ask them they can probably get you any TI razor (of which TI has stock) even if it's not listed on their website. I think this is a pretty reputable site to purchase from.
Unfortunately that's the extent to which I can be of any help - TI razors are still in my future... Good luck and let us know what you get and how you like it

Hello Morturn,
I have never read any negative feedback on Martin Nienberg.
He has long been and still is a trusted Member of the german forum.nassrasur dot com before he became a Thiers Issard vendor.
If you have any questions don´t hesitate to email him directly. He is capable of the english language as far as I know.
Regards

If' you're interested in historical razors from old blanks you should also consider the Fazzini-Livi regrinds. Old Fazzini himself died some time ago and his grandson Paolo carries on the good work. He teamed up with Mastro Livi who has the blanks at his workshop in Perugia.
Attached are scans from an Italian knife journal of an article about these old blanks.
Note: the scans are from part of the original article and reproduction here falls under the accepted publishing term of "fair dealing" -- to obtain the full article, the details are as follows.

Thanked: 9Martin is great to deal with!
Mark - I always wondered about the old blanks: what steel, were they hand-hammered, when were thay made, etc. Could you summarize the article? I know you like to write, LOL
Cheers

Heh heh! I wish I could. But my Italian is non-existent and I think Katie would bite my head off if I asked her to read and translate from an Italian knife journal.
The intro to the article says: An "important" collaborative effort, between Lido Livi and Paolo Fazzini from Premana. Livi specialises in cut-throat razors while Fazzini works on blades forged by his grandfather Pinin. A story of times gone by that tells of tradition and workmandship."
From what I've picked up, the Fazzini family specialise in scissors. 'Pinin' (which apparently means 'little' or 'baby') Fazzini was apparently somewhat famous and hailed from a region called Premana. The blades were all hand-forged.
I thought the Mastro had said they were all 100 years old, but the article doesn't have a date to match that. All I can find are dates based around 1940, which would seem to make more sense if Paolo Fazzini is only 35 years old and his grandfather was Pinin. So perhaps they're more like 70 years old?
As for steel, I don't think the article specifies. I can see mention of "li forgiava a mano in acciaio al carbonio". Babel fish translator says that means they were hand-forged with carbon steel.
It's a short article which is light on specifics. For interest:
- Custom Pinin pieces are still made, see www.pinin.com (loads here about how they forge the steel and what kind! They use the same methods as Pinin Fazzini.)
- Example of a damascus steel pair of scissors by Pinin

Thanked: 9Thank you, Mark
Yes, the shape doesn't strike me as something 100 yo... Nice looking blades and razors no question about it; I also heard that they shave very well
Cheers
