hmm... I'm new but would think gold on the shank and the tang would be the only nice place for it to quell any worries about rust (until if wears off of course...) but I'd rather have a mirror finish blade weee for dragging up old posts poking around with the search engine heh...

Actually a nice bit of nickle plating on the shank and tail would end a lot of rust worries and would be more durable than the gold
