Thanked: 0My first razor
Hi Guys my first razor
I have just got this razor from my dad who got in in 1945 when he was stationed in germany in the war so I think it is around 40 odd years old. It has been stored for the last 20 years after my grandfarther died.
The box is in excelent condition thought the picture dose not do it justice.
The razor: -
Name On the scales is horstator
On one side of the blade: 1848 horstator solingen with a patten on the blade as shown in razor 5 picture
On the other side of the blade: Made in Germany
I would be interested in the opionion of the members on here regarding it and if it seems a good razor to start shaving with. If any one knows the make or any history of this razor I would love to hear about it?.
I intend to use this razor to shave with (not sell it)after getting more info on the correct way to shave and look after my razor. If I get good feedback I would like to send it for honing by a honemaster but as I live in the UK dose any one know of a good one in the UK I could send it to or any surggestion ??
I have brought an ebay special for around £5 ( around $2-3) to learn to hone and generaly gain experiance with.

I don't know that brand (but that's not saying much!), but a three-pin Solingen blade should be a fine shaver. It's a pretty razor. Between that and its sentimental value, for you, I'd say it's well worth having honed!

Looks like a decent brand. Do get it honed Lynn or any other honemiesters before shaving with it.

From the only search result here on SRP, they're supposed to be great shavers (and I think Heribert Wacker has made razors out of Horstator blanks). So it looks like you've got a really nice razor there.
I think there are one or two UK members who provide honing services, but I can't think of who at the moment, if no one else knows then you can post in the honing or newbie (or even buy/sell/trade) section asking for UK honing in the subject title. Otherwise I think Bruno (Belgium) and LX_Emergency (The Netherlands) do honing as well.
