Default Erik Anton Berg / Eskilstuna / Sweden

I recently bought quite a nice 5/8 ivory-scaled razor from a member here, which was made by Erik Anton Berg. At least that's how the shank is stamped.

I've done some searching around on the internet, but most of what turns up are eBay auctions (he made a lot of old tools, such as chisels) and the odd post at Straight Razor Place.

Does anyone have any additional information about this maker? Definitely some skilled workmanship going on in Eskilstuna. Is anyone aware of the dates they were producing straight razors? I'd like to try and narrow that down. Must've been some time ago, since I can't exactly picture them delivering truck loads of elephant tusks to the place nowadays.

They started making razors in 1879. I don't know if other tools like chisels etc. came before or after that (but I bet the razors are the things that interest you most anyway). I don't know how long they made razors for, but I know the company was in business for some time, and produced knives in the 1950s. The company became a part of something called the Bahco Group in the late 50s, the Bahco Group is still in business but I don't really know what they do.

By the way, here is a page on the municipality of Eskilstuna's website with a picture of the building where Berg started making razors. It also says that Mrs. Berg helped by sharpening the razors at home.

    Thanks.

Yeah, I found another website that went into detail about the company making military fighting knives. That was neat. I'd like to get an idea of when the razor was produced, though, if I can.

    I can't help you more than 1879-1959.

    Hi Blade Wielder!

Ehh I know its been two years since you wrote this post, but I bought a Erik Anton Berg razor as well recently and I was wondering if you found any info on it.

I think i'll be posting fotos this weekend.. for show and tell i'm guessing the scales are in ivory or bone of some sort and it has what seems to be a fish printed on one side of the blade... i'm not so sure about its size (if its a 5/8 or other, I have to look up how much that is in centimeters. :P but basiclally it has 1,5cm)

    Thanks

Erik worked and learnt at C V Heljestrand. Got great skills and a loan to start his own business from home to start with. His wife did quality Control on all razors. When business grew she was still head of QA, nothing missed her eye.

Got one about a month ago with a stamp in the tang just like linguist's above. Was that stamp always used in an EAB or did they change over the years? (BTW, is that a shark or a tuna?)

One I've got is wicked sharp and put a couple of good size nicks in my face (and in a finger when polishing). It is also a black scaled 5/8 (barely) with a nice smile.

Zombie or not, inquiring minds want to know...
