First Old Razor
I have just purchased my first shave ready razor. I have been straight shaving since August. Starting out I a bought a basic 5/8 Dovo that VintageBlades had for his July pre-honed SRP member sale (awesome service by VintageBlades).
I thought I killed it with learning how to strop correctly. With advice from the members here and Lynn, I was able to bring it back with a barber hone I had purchased at flea market. Since then every shave has been great.
I have purchased several old razors when the price is right $10-$15 dollars, but none of them even close to shave with. A couple I'm re-scaling, and a few I'm still cleaning. Saving up for a Norton or Shapton set to begin practicing honing.
To the point.
I'm thinking of getting into 18th century reenacting and have told the wife I may invest in an 18th century razor, but the chances of finding, or affording one was the problem. I'm thinking of making one and have been helped by members here with deminsions from their 18th century razors.
Then I found this.

Not guite the right time period but close enough for me. So I took the chance and PM'ed "C Utz". It had not been sold so I bought it.
I would like to take this time to thank C Utz. Quick responces, quick shipping and very well packaged.
As soon as the razor showed up I was off for a shave. The only problem is that I had shaved the night before and only had a little stubble. So now I am with out a mustache and soul patch. Once my mustache was gone I went ahead and shaved the rest.
It was was definately not my Dovo. the heavy blade glided over my face. At first I did not think it was cutting. But after the pass I only found smooth skin. My neck has always been a problem to shave. But with this old blade I was able to go from jawline to base of my neck in one swipe. This blade just feels different some how. I don't know if it is psychosymatic, if I just think it is different, or it's realy different. the blade feels good. No irritation, and seems closer than my dovo. Great job honing C Utz.
I don't know if there will be any "new" razors going in to my collection, but now I think I have RAD for vintage, or a nice custom piece. I'm still paning on building a couple.
Until next time...
Keeping a weathered eye on the horizion.

Arthur,
I was lucky enough to score a beautiful "John Barber" on Ebay a while back. This was a secret between Cutz and myself (I guess the word'sout now); "John Barbers" are fantastic shavers! Mine is my best shaver!(and I own a lot of great vintage ones) I absolutely love it! I don't know about yours, but mine is a very, very heavy 5/8. It has the heft of a 6/8 or a 7/8, yet has the smaller profile of a 5/8. Mine, also, has the Mason Square on the neck.
Consider yourself lucky, these JB's do not show up very often. Enjoy!

Thanked: 10I have a matched pair of John Barber razors
They are very good razors
As a big fun of antique wedge razors I feel very emotional when I have an excellent shave, with a razor, that have appr. 200 years history in it.
I was sure that you would discover that soon Arthur.
