    Default Silvano Damascus

After seeing the review of Lynn's new razor, I decided to do a bit of digging on Google while the site was down earlier.

I'm not aware of many people making their own damascus (other than SRP members such as Tim Zowada, Mike Blue etc.), so when I heard about Lynn's razor I was intrigued.

After a look on Google, I found the Silvano in question is Camillo Silvano (though curiously he's credited as Silvano Camillo on the Maestro Livi DVD I have here).

His site is http://www.camillosilvano.it , and the brief text on the page about his damascus reads...

The Damascus produced by Camillo Silvano, shaped entirely by hand, is the result of forty years experience in the manufacture of iron and steel.

Wow, I guess he's had lots of practice making it then!

The pictures look amazing, some really unique pieces of steel. I've linked a couple below but there are more on the site.

I feel some questions to Maestro Livi coming on.....

I like lookin at other folks patterns. Thanks for those. It's really fun to unwind them in my head to figure out how he did it.

I like the randomness most of them show, no idea how it's done but it looks very cool.

I guess this one is twisted then hammered flat? http://www.camillosilvano.it/immagini/dam011.jpg

Lynn, what would you say is a nicer shaver, a Silvano Damascus or a Takeda? Or is it more a cosmetic/aesthetic thing?

I've tried a Takeda before and it was very nice. I just had a quote for a Silvano through from the Maestro and it watered my eyes slightly!

Exactly! It's not that difficult with the simple stuff. The other pix all started out as flat laminates and show two different techniques. One billet has been squared then turned up 45 degrees and hammered flat, the other has been turned 90 degrees and hammered flat.
