Thread: Scales (Rant)

After anxiously waiting for them for days, I just received three new razors this morning, a restored W&B, a brand new Dovo 5/8, and a TI Super Gnome 6/8, also new. I took the three razors out of their boxes, set them down on my desk....and two of them promptly fell over on their sides.

Why, you ask? Well, because the scales are so crooked that the razors won't actually "sit" on the them, but will instead tip over.

So, which two razors are we talking about? You guessed it, the BRAND SPANKING NEW Dovo and TI. The only one of the three razors that actually sat there like it was supposed to was a vintage razor with original scales that looks to be at least 30 or 40 years old.

I mean, come on folks!How fing hard is it to put a set of scales on a razor? I rescaled my first razor without any of the correct tools, and yet I was still able to do a far better job than these "professionals." I just don't understand why current manufacturers find it so difficult to drill a hole straight through a set of scales when they've got all the necessary equipment at hand. In addition, haven't they ever heard of quality control? I mean, is it really too much to ask that they take 1.5 seconds to make sure the scales fit correctly? Heck, the scales on the Dovo are so far off that if you just rotate them between your fingers you can FEEL that they're uneven!This is a $150 razor, mind you!!

When one couples this with the fact that Dovo increased their prices by almost 10% in the last year alone, it really begs the question of whether one should even bother with them any longer. I, for one, have had it. Ebay, here I come!

Agreed. I hate new non custom razors. They just don't put any pride into them any more.

Well I'm note surprised about the TI, but the Dovo is a bit of a shock (to me anyways). I'm 5 for 5 on my new Dovo's - all of them arrived in perfect shape and shave like a dream! Sorry to hear about that tatsuo......
