Thanked: 43Disinfecting razors
Although I wipe my razors clean before putting them away, I'd like to disinfect my razors once in a while for hygienic reasons (sensitive skin).
Could I besides pure alcohol, use a detergent like Biotex for instance which contains enzymes/ferments?
Love to hear what kind of product(s) are safe to use to disinfect razors without harming the blade material, gold leafing, etching?

How about Barbicide?
I use it when I've purchase an old DE razor. Soak for about 10 - 15 minutes.

alcohol 70-90%, 7% hydrogen peroxide, or a bleach water solution 1-50, barbacide is not capable of dealing with viruses bacterial spores, or fungi, its a low level disinfectant, you need a minimum of a intermediot level for things that have come in contact with blood such as the alcohol or bleach (bleach can corrode metals so i would avoid it at all costs) the best bet is rubbing alcohol for 10-20 min

I don't know if there is a single commonly available product that kills all the things you may be concerned about (eg, HIV, TB, and hepatitis B-D, etc.), especially on heat sensitive/corrosion-prone razors.
The CDC publishes lists of approved "sterilants tuberculocidal disinfectants anti-microbial products"... ie, things which kill various pathogens... see [here] for the list of documents.

I use 2 small spray bottles that were originally used for eyeglass cleaner. 1 has peroxide, the other alcohol. A quick squirt with each and wipe down with a cotton ball before each use. No worries.

I know about that, not much you can do about those, but a good disinfectant and a good wash should do it for the most part, and i got my info from a list from health care canada so likely a similar list, and from a quick skim of the list .5% Hydrogen peroxide is effective against Hep C and HIV, so if you can get a high consentration of hydrogen peroxide should do it (caution though hydrogen peroxide left unattended for a long time will likely corrode steel as it off-gasses oxygen, i dont know for sure if it will oxyides the steel or not as i have never used it, but im sure a few minutes, would be sufficent to disinfect 5-10)

I think doc mentioned "Clippersol" in some previous thread as it being what he used on his razors. I also asked my barber on my last visit, and he mentioned something else had replaced "Clippersol". So I went down to the local "Sally Beauty Supply" store (we have them in spades here in the South!) and asked about what could be used. I was shown "Cool Care Plus."
Granted, this stuff is really made for clippers, but what it does sounds good:
# Five-in-One formula is a coolant, disinfectant, lubricant, cleaner, and rust preventative
...
# The disinfectant is a virucide, fungicide, batericide and tuberculocide
We don't need the coolant, but the rest sound ok... I purchased one can, and have been using it since. After I rinse my razor with warm water, I'll pat it dry with my towel (including the scales) and then I'll hold the razor over the sink as I spray both sides. It takes a bit to dry - but I leave the razor on my mug for that. In about five minutes I take the razor and put it back in the display case (that's for another story!) I wouldn't say that they razor is display pretty, but the stuff washes off by simply rinsing in warm water.
