Thanked: 2W&B Special Full Concave
This is one of my razors. Wade & Butcher Special Full Concave.
I think the handles or scales are ivory but besides doing a hot needle test for plastics, I don't know how to be certain. I do have an ivory rule & under a magnifying glass they have very similar "lines"
My photos are poor, how do you avoid getting camera lenses & anything overhead as a reflection???
The blade has "lines" over both faces ~ too regular to be scratches. They are at right angles to "Full Concave" The only callipers I can find are giving 17/32 as blade width. What is full concave & I'd appreciate any help or critiscisms for the razor.
Thanks momma

Thanked: 28Nice razor!
Those scales look as though they could be "Best Grained Xylonite", a plastic material which used to be supplied in sheets to the Sheffield cutlery industry by BX Plastics Ltd. It was popular for use in table cutlery hafting, but is more unusual on pocket cutlery or razors.

Thanked: 28Oh yes - and the regular marks are grinding marks left by the manufacturing process (not buffed out - buffer lasses wages cost money, you know!)

Nice little razor you got there. Yeah, I agree that the scales are not ivory. The shape around the edges are too reminiscent of celluloid, not to mention I've never seen logos "pressed" into ivory like "special" on that one. The razor could use a clean up in terms of the oxidation/pitting on and around the blade/tang, but otherwise it looks good.

The scales on that one are not ivory, I had one of the same model that I sold. They are celluloid made to look sort of like ivory.
