Default Hello, I am new to the forums...

... and I need some help. I have recieved a razor that is an Anchor Brand. It is made of steel though not sure what kind and on the handle is a castle. I do not know how old it is and it seems to be in pretty good shape. I have used it and seems to do a fine job at shaving. Though, I would like a little background on the razor itself. Anyone, know where I can find some great information on these brands?
If possible, does anyone know or have seen the razor I am speaking of?
Last, I have seen that the blade does have some tarnishings on the blade. Where or what can I use to clean the blade up? I do not want to use steel wool on the blade as it might scratch the finish. Any ideas would be great.
Thank you for your time in reading this.
    GordonL.

I know the anchor brand was made by Wester Brothers, sadly I recently gave away my anchor box, otherwise I might be able to glean more info off it.

Edit: I do have an anchor brand on the way though, I'll give a rundown once it gets here.

    Default thank you,

Thank you for your responce. The razor seems to be fairly good. I do not know if the steel in AB is good or if it is one of the countless spin offs of a good brand. Being from Germany, I would think that it would be of good steel. As far as the hair test... I have not tried that. I live in Seattle area so I am still looking for shaving goods as I have just moved here from Texas. Any info though would be great on this as well if anyone knows their way around here.
Back to the razor, I have seen 85 stamped on the blade ( again not down with the lingo yet) and it does say that it is made in blade town, Germany. So.. the quest continues.

    thanks again,
    GordonL

Yes, what you have should be a Wester Bros. Anchor Brand, possibly a "Manganese"....from what you describe. Very nice shavers - I have two of them myself and use them regularly. You can use MAAS polish (inexpensive and available at Ace Hardware, etc) with a soft cloth to clean it. It can be used on the metal and on the scales with good results. I usually use rubbing alcohol and pipe cleaners to clean inside the scales and around the pivot pin as well. Post a few pics if you get the chance. Welcome to B&B and enjoy your shave!!

Default Thanks to you two Gentalmen...

Sounds Great to me! I need to get it honed and back in working shape. It does shave but seems to have issues around the neck and chin areas.. or could be me. I am used to using a DE razor. I like them still but the closeness of the straight-razor can not be beat'en. (is that even a word??) I will post some pics up here once I get a chance to making them. The skins are possible ivory with Neu swanstine?? ok spelling.. in mulitple colors reds and greens. Not sure it is at home and I am at work. N E way... thank you for your responces and Thank you for the welcome.
now back to the slave drive..
