Thanked: 335Otto Busch via The Shaving Shop
Since I've given up making any attempt to buy a razor on the B/S/T forum here - the is no way I can watch this web page closely enough, long enough, or frequently enough to be able to make the 1 to 3 minute catches it requires to be able to buy a nice 6/8 to 7/8 razor, it's just not possible for the average viewer/shaver here. "A man's got to know his limitations." --Clint Eastwood, from something or other.
So I looked at John Crowley's site and had my fancy caught by an Otto Busch NOS Stain Resistant 6/8+ round tip. Nothing fancy; it has black plastic handles. John's shipping is remarkably quick and I got it via Saturday's post. Sunday afternoon I honed it and put it at the head of the rotation for this morning's shave. BBS in 2 passes! This is one very, very nice razor. It may be the closest shave I have ever had with a straight razor and this includes 2 customs and one semi-custom.
So for those of you who are also among the disenfranchised BST attemptees, you may be able to pick up some medicine for the RAD or at least be able to find something to temporarily stanch the tremors by checking out some of the NOS available here and there -- and I can't say enough good about the Otto Busch and John's excellent service.
...I can hardly notice the shakes... and then I saw a Weltmeister, 6/8, with thumb notch...

I think to clarify, you might want to specify that John Crowley's website is www.shavingshop.com.

Thanked: 335kasper,
Thanks for the link.
Rusty,
Until I both buy and also become kindergarten proficient with a digital camera, you will have to be satisfied with checking out the link that kasper so graciously provided.
Moderator (I'm guessing here),
I see that I have been moved. Thank you ever so much, but for future attempts at providing pithy product evaluation, can you advise on what is a review and what is merely comment? Perhaps I was too voluble? Lack of pictures? Poor comparison to similar products? Too effusive? Not enough mention of...? I have a new strop which I think is the bees knees, but were I wanting to rave about it, am wondering where to find the right apiary.

Thanked: 335This feels more like a review by the post.
Otto and I shaved together again this morning. I was almost lulled into complacency by the smoothness of the shave and caught my self just as I started to think that this butter knife smooth device couldn't possibly have an edge on it. No nicks, no slices, and no whiskers.

Thanked: 735I myself was pretty intrigued by the Otto Busch, but I pulled the trigger on a 7/8 Henckels instead.
Is the Otto a full hollow? Or is it something beefier?
The silver steel World Master keeps calling to me as well...
Congrats on the new razor!
From what I can tell a review would/should be a bit more in-depth, talk about some tangibles ("It's a 13/16th blade, in Rostfrei stainless, as the full moon rises I catch the lunar glint off of the fine honed bevel as I raise the blade to my freshly lathered face....), show some pretty pics to whip other shavers into a buying frenzy, and stuff like that.Last edited by Seraphim; 02-26-2008 at 08:56 PM.

Thanked: 335Sera...,
Per your suggestions:
"It was a 6/8+ morning in the shave den; the full hollow glinted in the light of the energy saving mini fluorescent bulbs. The Speick cream was squirted into the preheated ceramic bowl and whipped to a shining lather by the Shavemac brush. German razor, German cream, German brush; it was a Teutonic morning save for the American strop. The shave was uneventful and boring if things like babys' butts are common place and unremarkable. To a baby I guess they may be. On my face, it's something about which I remark about with some pride. It was a good Teutonic 6/8+ morning, a very good morning; I could meet the day smoothly."
Review worthy yet?
I still don't do pictures, drat!
