NOS DD Satinedge
Look at this beauty! A friend I work with inherited this from his step-grandfather who was a barber. He had others as well but gave them away years ago. He found out I was into STR8 shaving and asked if I could restore and get shave ready.
I told him of this forum and the honemeisters, but he put it into my hands anyway. I feel I can get it to the point of a good shaver and only hope I can make it worthy of its full potential.
I tried to buy it for $100, but he wouldn't let go. This thing has never seen a hone since the factory as far as I can tell. I guarantee I'll have a shave or two before he gets it back.
BTW, I get a 30+ yr. old puck of Williams for my efforts . Oh well, this is too nice to sit in the old wrapper on rot. Game on!

Thanked: 4942Niiiiiiice......!!!
I have heard many times that the old barbers really liked the Dubl Ducks and old C'Mons when it came to their go to shaving razors.

Thanked: 2209Just a word of caution. I have two of them, exactly the same, NOS, except mine are Satin Baby's and both have just started with the dreaded celluloid rot/gassing off. The celluloid scales are rotting and if I had not caught it in time the gas would have corroded/rusted the blade. Keep that razor out of the sunlight and let it "breathe". Do not store it with other razors.
There is a chance that yours is not the same celluloid material so keep a close eye on it. If the scales start to get a "yellow" color then replace them immediately.
Hope this helps,Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

UPDATE
An updated on the DD.
I got it honed up nice. Probably the nicest edge I have ever done to date. Polished up real nice with some #0000 steel wool and Mothers polish. I used it a couple times - Shaved real nice.
I dipped it in barbercide and polished the blade up a little. Stropped it back up and returned it to it's owner (friend from work). He got home with it, took it out of the case i gave him, and proceeded to drop it .
Put a 1/16" knick in the heel of the blade. It landed on carpet so I can only assume it was opening as it hit the floor and pushed the blade over into the scales. So it sounds like I will be getting this back and trying to work out the knick. Maybe he'll sell it to me now, sine it is damaged and all .
I'll post when I get it back.
