Ivory scales numbered?
Quite possible because ivory scaled razors would have been quite expensive so worth pawning.

i thought ivory is fairly hard - but you've clearly tried polish on it and you can tell that it's scratched...
certainly i'd wager that it's not how they were made

None of my ivory scaled razors have numbers scratched on them.

I've seen them on Ivory and on Tortoiseshell and would agree that pawnshop numbers are a good bet. Bloody barbarians!

Well I can tell you for sure they were not manufactured like that. Sometimes if its a limited production custom piece there could be a number but that would be inside the scales not on the outside. Those were made by some collector or retailer.
