Thanked: 9how bad is bad?
Was in an antique shop today and saw a straight, can't remember the company. It wasn't rusted or anything, but the edge had a number of dings, and a really tiny chip. Lady wanted $10 for it.
I don't know much about honing, but I guess my question is, how can I tell if the condition of the blade is fixable? Does anyone have a picture of a blade that you shouldn't waste your time on, or one that is right on the line between "fixable" and "garbage"?

I buy razors to sell on & my rule of thumb is that I wont bother with a razor if the chip is deeper than the honed edge. You can get deeper chips out but it takes a lot of work & isn’t always worth it.

If you have a 1000x grit hone and a bunch of time, I would go up to twice the width of the honed edge.
Nice idea by the way. Every one uses fractional inches or mm, but the bevel is always there and more or less the same width across most razors. Good one.
Pictures - no. If you can see it right away on an ok quality picture, I'd stay away.
