Default Help me spend my money

Well, after going through financial hardship forever! I finally got a small break and the wife gave me the green light to spend $150 on a new razor. I wanna get the most bang for the buck and I want something brand new not vintage. With that being said, whats the best bang for the buck at www.classicshaving.com Oh, I am pretty new to straights. I have been doing the cheeks and whatnot with a loaner razor and now I wanna start getting my own gear. Oh, she also gave me $50 to get a strop also, need a good deal on one of those as well. Thanks in advance.

Billy, seeing you have $200.00 burning in your pocket, why not shop around a bit more? Classic is a great place to deal with but there are others who will fit into your price range. I'd check out Vintage Blades LLC and The Shaving Shop, both of those have a great selection of razors and strops.

You'll notice that both of those sites carry strops from The Well Shaved Gentleman and I would suggest you budget a bit more towards your strop and get a basic carbon steel razor with the honing service. A good strop will last you a lifetime, so will a razor but you're bound to get more than one razor if you stay with straight shaving. There really isn't much difference between most of the razors in the sub $150 range as far as shaving capability goes... it's mostly the looks. When you get higher up in price (and I'm talking $250 - $1000 and more), you begin to get different steels and much higher craftsmanship not to mention exotic artwork on both the blade and the scales... You will never regret getting a great strop... it'll last you for your lifetime if you take care of it (but just to be on the safe side, if you get one from Tony, get the practice strop as well as it's less than $10 and you won't feel bad if you cut it in half).

    Just my thoughts....

+1 for the practice strop advice. I have already put a few cuts into mine, but the good news is the nice one is still in good shape.

    welcome welcome....

For 200 you can a couple/few vintage shave ready razors and a strop.. New is overated... My new razors shave just as well as the vintage razors.. As long as they're shave ready you won't know the difference...
