    Default Is this razor usable???

Ok, so I seriously bought this razor on eBay since it is so small and it appealed to my girlfriend for her to use shaving. I can obviously restore it and all, but is it really supposed to be used to shave with? Would it take an edge???

It is a Krusius Brothers, Germany razor. Blade is seriously about 1.5" long (cutting edge). Now I think it would still be usable if it weren't for the spine... or lack there-of. The spine is barely noticeable (check out the pics). Would I use an angle just by holding it up like honing a kitchen knife? Sorry the spine picture is kind of hard to see, but the spine is on the right (looks thick on left because of tang behind the blade). Any thoughts here? It looks like it could be pretty precise and maneuver well for a woman if honed. I'm pretty much stunned by this thing. I mean the scales look like bone- why would the thing be un-usable???

    Default Frameback?

I certainly dont think you would be able to hone this thing to a proper shaving level. I wonder though, if you could weld on spine like a small frame back. Weld on a spine and then have a ''Regrind" done to ensure uniformity. just my $.02

I just had a chat with Tommy Razor about those little guys like that and I don't remember what he said about them. I will rack my brain and see if I can remember. I don't think they were for shaving though. Oh and if you weld on it you will probably destroy the heat treatment.

Looks like maybe a corn razor, used for trimming the calluses on your feet.

I was thinking that it was for getting those pesty nose hairs. Insert and give a little spin.

You could "electrical tape" a plastic Q-Tip body (or similar) on each side for a honing guide. Or just freehand the spine about a penny's width above your hone, just like a knife.

I don't know - if the girlfriend liked it for her special use, I think I'm gonna go with that. Perhaps merge this with the already existing thread on the subject?
As far as honing goes I think you may be able to make a honing spine for it - Maestro Livi made one last summer for a razor he made for a member. Look up the thread. It's his 10th anniversary gift or something - you should be able to find it. I think the scales were ivory with 10 abalone circular inlays.
