Sorry PapaBull for the stealing of your photo however, mine would look something like this with the exception that I'd want a Spanish Point thrown in. This is in my opinion one of the greatest looking razors I've ever seen or made. Whoever ended up with this masterpiece...I'm in awe. Great work...maybe one day I'll get one done.

I'll post here as soon as my Robert Williams comes in! ;)

Mine should be here in the next 2/3 weeks.......
I am generally looking for a variety. I look for something I do not have. Here are some of the overall attributes
1. Size must be tween 7/8 - 6/8 . I plan on using anything bigger is just a show piece. Anything smaller feels like a tooth pick for a custom
2. Overall shape and profile of a blade
3. Type of steel
4. Grind
5. Durable, attractive and a natural material for scales that balances the blade.
Blade
- Anodized/colored damascus :)
- Mirror, brushed and mat finished metal combined
- Holes in the blade & tang
-
Scales
- Lapis Lazuli stone inlay
- Rusted with lacquer finish
- 3D carving effects
- Mosaic of stones
-
Here are some scans from some quick sketches that I made a few months ago when I got some head spins (got much more but ca't find them)
But since I have no forging, metal and wood working skills I'll keep on dreaming I guess? :(
- 6/8 - 7/8 Damascus blade. maybe a little more radical than Lynn's above (very nice BTW).
- custom ornate beveling on spine and tang.
- some sort of artwork etched on the belly, something hardcore! a mural.
- scales. i have never seen this before, i'm not even sure if it could be done. i want black with white lines, marble. maybe black granite. but definitely stone! it would be heavy, but i'm a huge guy with huge hands and that's the appeal.
- the pins would be white gold or high quality silver. i might settle for titanium, maybe.
- the spacer would be of the same material as the blade with matching notches from the spine and tang to finish it off.
who knows, maybe some one here would be up for the challenge. i would love to see this beast come to fruition! :y
Lynn, I am in love with the damascus Maestro with clear scales featured in your video.
My gf is very fussy and even she agrees that razor is strinkingly beautiful. I struggle to improve on that, although I also like the abalone handles with the holes in.
Plain?

O.K. I spent a few minutes and put down a quicky version of what I would love to have. Its not perfect, but I think it gets the idea across.
Ebony scales with enameled flag insert. Damascus blade( not sure on the pattern.) Silver pins. Some file work on the spine and grip area.
HERE IS THE FULL SIZE VERSION
I'm a pretty simple guy so I like kind of plain boring things. Nothing fancy really maybe a 6/8s or 7/8s spanish point damascus. Very plain tastefully done Elephant Ivory Scales. There is no material like Elephant ivory in looks and feel. Legal stuff of course.
Like a couple others I'm also waiting for a Williams that I ordered the beginning of January.
7/8 Damascus
Leaf and Vine worked back
Barber's notch
Thumb notch
jimps top and bottom
Brazilian Cherry scales
Can't wait. :)
I'm still so hooked on the Livi/Takeda with rams horn scales, I'm kind fo traditional on design but a long tail with a spanish point would be enough for me...
Mmmm I need to order another Takeda kitchen knife,,,,
My custom? Probably a 5/8 French point with a worked spine, funky jimps, and scales made from the antlers of my first buck (which I've yet to shoot).
If possible, I'd like the cartridge casing to be melted down and reformed to create the spacer for the scales. That might be a bit much though... :D
Come on guys, lets see some drawing or modeling skills.:tu
7/8 Damascus Spanish point blade and monkey tail; quarter hollow ground
Ivory with some tasteful etching (undecided on specifics); optionally bone or horn scales
Some appropriate filework on the blade that was appropriate to the blade and scales.
A free perfect razor.
How's this?
Perhaps not the 'perfect' razor, but it would certainly be fun to own.
I'm not so much about form, as long as function is superb. But form must be fun.
I call it the Beast. Something that has the aura of its possibility to do terrible damage.
Dark wood (or finish) scales, double inlay for the eyes (on both sides, of course), and black pins. The teeth would be ivory; just a touch.
A very wide (7/8 or 8/8) carbon blade with a mirror finish on the face, except the 'teeth' of the lower jaw, the spine, tang, and tail will all either be etched, engraved (as the case may require) or 'brushed' to stand out wonderfully. Simple filed jimps along the tang.
A long enough tang so my fingers aren't cramped while shaving, and enough tail to not be understated.
Ernest, I like that idea! Looks cool if the razor could form the bottom jaw like in the pic!
Simple and like a knife I've always liked.

Okay, don't laugh at the poor art work...
8/8 Takeda damascus (or similar) spanish point worked back, with jimps
The handle would be dark buffalo or kudu horn with fire opals...

i know it's rather simple, but  what can I say?
Wow!!! I see all these and my mouth salivates.
Stainless or carbon. 6/8 to 7/8, quarter-hollow to wedge. Jimps top and bottom. Ebony scales, 3 pins, and squared ends.
Joel,
I love those drawings. There are some very fine design ideas among them, particularly the ones with the "nautilus"-style ornaments. I reckon you know Jules Verne?
I have still a few other woodworking projects to finish first (among them a shaving box) but in some future I intend to do a few sets of scales as well. Maybe we can get together in my woodshop at that time and see what we can come up with in a joined effort. My best friend shaves with a straight as well. He's one of Belgium's (and probably Europe's) best figurine sculpturers around, and he 's fond of "steampunk" design. Lately, we 've been talking about making scales.
I can't comment on my ideal razor yet, still haven't figured out what I like best of the 4/8" to 10/8" range, and whether it would have to be a wedge, a full hollow, or something in between.
I've heard the name Jules Verne before, isn't he a famous writer about world/sea/space/timetraveling?
I never heard of the term 'steampunk' before so I did a quick image seach. I like that style, it made me think of the movie 'La cité des enfants perdu' (The city of the lost children)
from director Jean-Pierre Jeunet which was probably inspired by the style.
I am a big fan of the Art Nouveau style, all those organic shapes and swirls, absolutely wonderful. And Belgium being the Art Nouveau center of the world there's a lot to be inspired by.
My dream is to build my own Art Nouveau house one day with the entire interior and all its furniture..and sure there is some room for some 'steampunk' design :D
Yes, could be fun to have a rendez-vous some day to brainstorm about scale making and have an real Belgium beer (provided you drink 'm of course) :hmmm:
I didn't knew you had your own wood shop, are you a hobbyist of a professional woodworker?
A few months ago a when to a fine wood supply store in the east of Holland to get me some nice Purple Heart and Padoek wood to make some scales but my first attempt failed (lack of skill, tools and material knowledge).
PS: Still waiting for my DMT's :)
I just ordered a scalloped, burgandy, micarta, cs-6/8, full hallow, English Classic. Wish I had a pic to show. Pipeline is 4 to 5 months, so end of August should be in my hands.
I just ordered a scalloped, burgandy, micarta, cs 6/8 full hallow, English Classic model. Pipeline is 4 to 5 months. Sorry, no pics, however, can be seen on Roberts web site.

Here is my simple drawing that is with Papabull for his rendition in real life. The size has upped to 7/8 but otherwise I think it is close to how I would like it. I assume Robert is still a few weeks away from starting this one - expecting it in May. I have been a big snake person for many years (if you want a copy of my book on green tree pythons and emerald tree boas seen here http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...315919-4420149
I can do it for half the advertised price, I'll even sign it!! Special SRP deal ;) ) and took the opportunity of developing that theme with Roberts obvious talents. Can't wait to see the finished article and try it out!

My tastes seem to change from time to time I like simple lines and a little art, mine would look like this with a square point:
http://custom.straightedgerazors.com...mshaw3_brn.jpg
Hope you don't mind Lynn I have a little razor envy
Don
Everytime I envision what I'd like from Papabull all I see is that scrimshaw pop into my head!!! I think I would like a 8/8 round point full hollow mirror polish and for the scales, I'd want a combination of scrimshawed ivory very similar to the one on papabull's site :) for one scale and the other scale I'd want it made of the first 10 pointer buck I lay down. (At this point I'll gladly take down a legal spike. 8 more months to go!!!)
I had the pleasure of handling the Willams scrimshaw razor at the Ohio roundup and I must say it is as amazing in person as it is in the pic. I would love to have this razor. mabe someday I can comission one like it.
Don
really great work,
but I ' m addict to classics...
Many of you might notice that I have Gimped someone elses razor with a few mods. But this is something like what I am working on having made....
http://straightrazorpalace.com/image...stom_try_3.jpg
Quick sketch scanned and then filled in with Gimp.
So far I'm looking at something like this (not sure about the damascas blade - I think a satin finish would also look good) ,1/4 ish hollow shoulder less 8/8 blade, jimps top and bottom, thumb notch, brushed titanium scales no spacer as such just a tube between the scales that the bottom "pin" screws into.
I don't know for sure what mine would look like....... I'm still waiting for Joe Chandler to finish it! :D
All I know is that I wanted a square point 7/8ths stainless with African Blackwood scales and nickel pins. Joe will fill in the details when he gets to it.
