Snake Oil Galore
Anyone else see the commercial for these awful things?
http://www.theinfinityrazor.com/Default.asp?bhcp=1
Upon closer inspection it is just the usual plastic crap but with a tungsten carbide blade that "never needs sharpening"
Any thoughts?

Thanked: 1Seen it, and it scared me. People are either going to buy it in droves and return it in droves, or get bad shaves from the same razor for a very long time.

In the world of "sharp", there are two things (that I know of) which affect sharpness:
1. How well a blade retains sharpness
2. How hard a blade is to sharpen
It is always the case that these two are inversely proportional. Now, with that said, the blades that tend to get and stay the sharpest for the longest are ceramic. You're not gonna put a ceramic blade in a "disposable" razor. Whatever material they use, even if it were ceramic (it's not) will dull over time.
It's a sham. They probably charge you for shipping above and beyond shipping fees to cover the cost of the refills or they just hope you lose their contact info and can never get back in touch with them.Last edited by kasperitis; 03-11-2008 at 08:57 PM.

Thanked: 5It's just like kitchen knives that never need sharpening. They are always vastly inferior to a knife that you hone periodically and take to the steel each time before use. The thing is that people either don't notice, or don't care.
The other thing is that if they can sell enough of them and liquidate stock, chances are their business model is one where they won't attempt to restock and won't attempt to make a lasting product. Gillette and the like are in a better market as once people have their handles, the must buy the cartridges, but this company obviously just wants to make a quick buck and hope that while they are doing it that minimal people actually dull their razors enough and have the time to actually fill out all the paper work and wait the 8-10 weeks to get their new razor.
All in all....I got into straights initially to save money compared to buying a lifetime supply of disposable razors. Funny how that works out....but on a side note at least my razors retain their value, and if honed can even increase. Whereas this junk might technically remove some hair from your face region, but that's about all I would count on it doing.

If I remember correctly, they will replace the razor for you "free" for life. The only minor detail is that shipping is $19.99. If it sounds to good to be true...
