    Default Father's Razor?

This was found amongst my father's things. He's been gone at least 13 years now and my brother had this. He realized my recent interest in Str8's and sent me this. It was unused and in excellent shape. I am posting pictures for any help identifying it. There is not a brand name. I am sure it is from the 1950's or slightly before.
The handles are a hardened plastic. Let me know if you have any ideas.
    Thanks

Looks like a servicable 5/8" round point in great shape. The real kicker is that it's a part of family history. I wish I had my great gramps' razor. Get it honed and enjoy it

    As the gentleman above said....

Th e gold wash painted on the blade is fairly delicate.
Do a search for "gold wash" or someone will hopefully talk about it here shortly.

The blade and handles look to be in good shape.

Another question for the audience. I'm pretty sure 1950's is post celluloid
    but clarification is likely helpful.

What kind of mild polish can he use over a gold wash?

Some of the cream style polishes for cars have little to no grit in them
I have had good luck with Blue Magic and also Flitz without harming gold wash KEEP IN MIND ALL RAZORS ARE DIFFERENT so go easy...
I would stay away from MAAS & Simichrome YMMV

The fast non-harmful way of seeing what the scales are really made of is your sniffer, rub the scales with a cloth vigorously and sniff.. Catlin and Celluloid give of a slightly camphor smell, Bakelite smells sorta like an old hot radio and well plastic smells like plastic....

Really nice to have a family heirloom that you can use!!!
