    Default How to hold Iwasaki

I had asked this question in the middle of a different post, but I am still seeking answers. Does anyone know the proper way to hold an Iwasaki razor for shaving? The one reply on the other post basically said "any way you want to," but just like there is a proper way to hold a regular straight razor, there must be a proper way to hold an Iwasaki.

I just love mine - I get almost baby smooth on the first pass. It's amazing, but I would like to know the correct way to hold it as intended by the maker.

There is also some debate as to shaving with one side only versus the wedge side. Any official information on that too?

    Thoughts? Resources?

Well first its not a wedge its a concave side. There is no debate about using two sides or one other than some do it and some don't however the razor is designed to be used with the concave side to your skin at all times. As far as holding it goes because of the design of the handle part when you really think about it there aren't too many options on how to hold it. Just a firm grasp. There is no special way. If you can wrap all your fingers around it then do it. The only point is you will notice on the iwasaki there is a point near where the blade starts which is kind of notched on the convex side and it is intended to put one finger on that part while you shave. That would be the index finger. The guys who shave with two sides can't do that because the notch doesn't exist on the concave side.
