Thanked: 43Absolutely a beautiful straight that is. I got one myself with black plastic scales.
One thing I had to get used to (still am) was the fact that there is no grip on the thumb rest. The corner from the thumb rest to the sides of the blade feels quite square (squarish?).
While stropping it has the tendency to slip from my thumb, resulting in a strop cut, this already happened to me.
I'm still learning to properly hone a razor and only gave it a few strokes on a Belgian Coticule but I feel this nice piece of steel has much more potential than I've experienced so far.Last edited by Joelski78; 04-04-2008 at 04:48 PM. Reason: Typo's, typo's and typo's

I got a pair of these recently & I was very impressed with the razor & Martin. His service is excellent.
I did post a review of these as I was so impressed& I just gave one to my twin brother as he likes the heavier blades. His first comment to me after using it was its the best shaver he's used so far.Paul

Alright, first shave is in. Note that this is only my second straight and I do not think that I have 20 shaves under my belt yet. So I'm still a newbie.
Going from a 5/8 full hollow ground to le grelot, the first thing noticeable was the obvious difference in size and weight. Unlike the 5/8, I only had to guide it and the weight pretty much provided the power. Here is where its advantage showed right away.
Shaving the mustache and chin area proved easier and more comfortable. The 5/8 would jump at times, due to coarse stubble (strong facial hair on this guy). This happened less and less with more practice, of course, but le grelot simply slid down the area with no "traction loss" anywhere.
On the other hand, it felt less sharp. At this point I do not know if this is what they mean when they say that a smaller razor (in general) provides a closer shave or if it's this blade, but it was really a different feeling. It was like I could be more aggressive and swifter, but the blade was very forgiving. I only got one minor nick (on the neck).
I won't draw any conclusions just yet. Not until I give it at least a few more runs.
Here are the pics of the left side:

Unfortunately the oil cannot be removed and has caused permanent
and irreparable damage to the razor. I cannot in good conscience let
you continue to shave with it, so you had better send it over to me
for proper disposal.
I mean... beautiful razor

This is why I went straight....
Just completed my 3rd shave and this thing keeps getting better and better. I only did a one WTG pass and I am a happy shaver. My cheeks were almost BBS, I got no nicks and no razor burn (shown to me after applying an alcoholic AS). Yes, I missed a spot or two, but hey, I'm still a newb.
Overall, great time had by all.
This thread may rest now.
