Tonsorial Gem
So, my razor from the Bay showed up today. I'm pretty happy with it, overall.
On one side it is stamped "Tonsorial Gem"
The other side is stamped "Made in Germany for HC Haynes chicago"
No idea what that means, other than finding an H Haynes in listings as an African-American Inventor/Barber. Could be pretty nifty!
The blade turned out to be in better shape than I thought. I'll be polishing it up a bit, then sending it to a honemeister, I think.
I will attach pics tomorrow, when I can get my hands on the camera.

"Tonsor" is Latin for "Barber".

I have a Clauberg's Tonsorial Gem. It's been in my rotation almost from the very beginning. A very competent shaver.

Here is the only clear shot of it I can get. For some reason, anything closer than this blurs. Dumb camera. I'll try to get some more tomorrow.

Overall, it's in quite good shape. There is a small pit on the blade surface, though not in such a place as to make honing and sharpening the thing impossible. Once I can get a honemeister to work his magic (ahem!) I should be good to go.
Annoyingly, I find myself looking at more razors online, trying to figure out if I should get another one, to have some variety. Dang it.

Yeah, the hone-wear is fairly minor, so you can expect decades of good service from it.
While I've had as many as 10 blades in my rotation, I keep finding myself using 3-4 on a regular basis in addition to using 2 others exclusively as travellers. Ofcourse, I had to go through lots of razors to narrow that down
I guess I'll have to part with a few.
