Oh man. Today i tried shaving outside of the shower with a DE using a Personna blade. It was horrible. I hated it. I dont know why but that DE is just too damn sharp. Theres no smoothness when cutting. It like gets caught going ATG on chin/neck area. Im giving up on the DE, I truly despise it. I know about blade angles, the most miniscule touch and it just hurts my face. My lathering was good although it got "cold" when not surrounded my hot steam and such. Overall a bad experience, I dont know how Im going to convert to using a str8. Is it this bad with a str8? Everyone mentions the HCS being soft and smooth against the face. My beard isnt even coarse, yet that DE makes it seem so. Is the str8 something totally different? I just cant seem to do ATG passes on my neck or chin/area between chin/cheek with a DE. I sure hope that isnt the case with a str8 but being that its a single blade and sharp, how couldnt it be..someone elighten me, Im getting pretty down thinking i'll have to use these M3 blades forever.

Wow, I don't know what to tell you. Alot of guys with all kinds of beard types and skin sensitivities use DE's and love them. I use one when I am in a big hurry and I don't have a soft beard or ruff skin. You must be doing something wrong to be getting that result. You might want to see about linking up with someone near you who can watch and maybe make some suggestions.

As far as a stainless straight goes the only thing I would add is I find once a stainless starts to dull it seems to give a very uncomfortable shave faster and more severely than a carbon seems to do.
