Ladies' razor
I think I may have gotten what may be a great ladies' razor from a lot of razors I got off of the bay. I'll have to post some pictures but I'll describe it a little bit.
It's american steel, a shumate if I remember correctly and is shorter than other razors by about an inch or so. It has a barber's notch on it and a thumb slot on the top of the tang as opposed to the bottom. I figured the slot on top would be better as ladies shaving their legs likely may push the razor away from them for their WTG pass giving a different grip on the razor than us men are used to. It's about a 5/8 by my estimation.
It has a bunch of rust on it so it'll require some clean-up (one of my resto projects that I just got in with the junker razors for the electrolysis experiment) and has original scales that look to be in great condition. Doesn't sit even inside of the scales (leans to one side when closed) and has a huge wedge in the scales (seemed a bit odd to me at first).
Maybe when it's cleaned it'd be a good candidate for a lady on the forum, duno but it'd probably be a while as I haven't really done any full resto's yet. I'll get some pictures up when I get home.
I was wondering myself why it had a thumb notch on the top of the tang, it's definately much larger than the small korn razors that I've seen and my guess is it may have been such a razor as removing a korn perhaps used a similar grip on the razor.
Edit: So I got home and took a second look at the razor and I'm pretty convinced it's junk about now. The toe of the razor is significantly warped to one side and if you look straight on at it you can see the warpage as well. Should be able to see it in photos 3 and 5, but here are the pics. It's actually a robeson shuredge with a spanish point.Last edited by bevansmw; 04-21-2008 at 04:23 PM. Reason: photos
