Thanked: 1Tosuke Blade Imperfection?
Hi All
I recently bought a new Tosuke razor from Ebay and after getting it home and unwrapping it I noticed that on the blade very close (a few millimeters) to the cutting edge there seems to be an imperfection on the blade, probably from manufacturing, like a small recess / hole in the metal.
I want to use this razor to shave with so I'm not too concerned about how it looks, what I was thinking was after honing it a few times this section will be right on the cutting edge and may not allow for a smooth shave and this whole section would need to be ground out.
What do you guys think? Is this cause for concern?
Thanks for your help...

This is probably not a huge concern, and it would take a while for
you to get the bevel back to that spot with regular honing/usage.
Depending on how deep the pitting goes, if/when do you reach it
with the bevel the angle of the bevel may avoid the affected area.
I would just use it

I don't think it will be an issue . Even if you live long enough to hone it down that far , I don't think the imperfection is deep enough to affect the edge .

Thanked: 150I have to disagree, if you bought that on ebay and the seller didn't include the defect in the listing you should contact them. Either get a replacement or some of your money back or something.
You may not ever hone the razor back far enough to have it be a problem, but maybe you will, maybe the defect is worse under the surface, you just don't know.
that said, it's your choice.

I guess it depends whether you got a really good deal on this razor. If so, then you may just want to go with it. These razors are not made any more and are becoming in high demand. So, bottom line is that you may not be able to get a replacement for this razor. If you got it at a reasonable price and you like it, then keep it and use it.

The question is what kind of imperfection is it? It looks like a pit or crater there. The issue is if it gets honed back to that point is it something that will chip or is it just a very shallow imperfection that won't cause a problem. You need to inspect it and decide because the pics just don't tell enough. Many would say you bought it new so get it exchanged for a perfect one. Its your call. If you use it alot and I mean really alot it could be at the edge in a few years and if it affects the performance it will then be too late to do anything about it other than fix it and that may mean a trip back home unless you are a highly skilled honer.

I would be concerned about it since the pitt is so close to the edge. It would not be acceptable to me if I paid top dollar for that Tosuke.
