    Default Old eBay Razor

I found this old razor on eBay (110244858953) last week, and I thought five dollars was worth the gamble. It was a little dirty, but a soft toothbrush and Scrubbing Bubbles took off the dirt and grime. It does have a stain on each side of the blade, but I don't see any chips or cracks anywhere. And the pivot pin is nice and tight. I'm sure it's a generic cheap-o, but is it worth sending to a honemeister?

(The razor reads: SCHODER THUN. The box reads: F. Schoder Thun Messerfabrikant Garantie.)

    Thanks for the advice...

Very nice razor and well worth honing and shaving with.

Chances are that you could shave with that the rest of your life. I would send it out for honing, those fellas are very good at blade evaluation. I am sure if it's not worth putting an edge on for some reason, they wouldn't charge you.

Nice looking razor - I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be honed and made shave-ready

Sorry, I have to buck the trend here. That blade is worthless. Send it to me, and I'll dispose of it for you, free of charge. You've made a narrow escape my friend - lucky for you I caught it in time.

(nah - she's nice. I just feel the need to drag out that old joke every six months or so. I'll go away now...)

Thanks, everyone. I'll definitely send it off somewhere to be honed. (I'm excited now.)

    Default Do it yourself honing

Give it a try on the hone yourself, it feels good to shave with a edge you have made.

Some say that wielding a straight razor leads to powers that some consider supernatural. Come to the bright side of the edge.

Nice grab, Chris. The razor looks very nice to me. I'm a sucker for a blade with bolsters.

Looks like you got several of the criteria from your wish list. It's Karma.

    +1

Blades like that are particularly easy to hone as well, as less there's some sort of anomaly that I can't see. I'm a newbie and I've purchased 3 or 4 (can't remember exactly, RAD really messes with your mind) razors with similar grind/blade shape, and they were much easier to get shaving with than some of the others
