Thanked: 0Tokyo Stores?
Hey straights,
I'm interested in getting a straight razor here in Tokyo - does anyone know of a good suggestion of a place to go to get one?
Thanks!

What part of Tokyo do you frequent or live in? I have been to about 5 shops with straights. Three of them near Tokyo staition, one in Ueno and one in Asakusa. I haven't been too impressed with the selection though. Although I did find that hoard of NOS Filarmonica Novodours that I cleaned out for some of the members here.
From what I've seen, there are some Dovo's, Hen and Rooster's, Henkel's, Robuso's (by Tanifuji a Japanese razor smith who died about 30 years ago), other Comemorative Tanifuji Razors, and some Feather Artist Club razors. For Japanese-Style razors I have found the cheaper version of an Iwasaki and some Tosuke's. There is also another razor maker living in Nagano named Machita, who is making woost razors with a bamboo style handle/grip.
Let me know what you are interested in and either PM me or ask about it in this thread.

Thanked: 0Great reply!
That is an awesome reply. I am very interested in getting something that is Japanese since I am here afterall. I am visiting for work until Sunday and have tomorrow off so I can go exploring. So if you have any addresses or names of places to check out that might have the Tokuse or else the other Japanese one you mentioned that would be so very awesome.

Ok, two of the stores with the Japanese style razors are within walking distance of each other. I will PM you with some more details.

Thanked: 0Hey there,
I'm living in Tokyo and I am looking for a straight razor here, but I haven't found too many shops yet.
after it looks like you know your way around here quite good ,I wonder if I may ask you for some advice where to look at.
I have found two razors in kappabashi at the Tsubaya knifeshop, but he has only one suzumasa and a nipponstyle one.
after its my first one, i would like to see some different ones to choose from.
it would be great if you could help me (^U^#)!!!
Thank you!!!

Thanked: 7I don't know if it helps much, but this I think is based in Tokyo: JAPANESE RAZOR
I suppose it's a good starting point towards other guys in the business. Hope it helps!
Aw, snap! Disregard, that, I've just seen that they're based in Hawaii! My bad, please excuse me. I've always assumed that shop really belongs in Tokyo.

Thanked: 41A friend of mine is going to Japan. I could ask him for a hone (I'm thinking about a 12K), assuming that the prices are much better there. Do you know stores in e.g. Kappabashi that fit the bill?
