Japanese Straight
I ran across a chance to pick up a Japanese Straight razor supposedly from WWII. I was hoping that someone who knows these razors could tell me if it might be worth the cost which is less than $40. Any info good or bad is appreciated.
Thanks

Hopefully someone else can be of more assistance with regard to the razor's value. To me it looks like the one side has been maintaned well enough to shave with if only the other side had been as well. Looks like it's only a tad bit away from being shave ready. And if you really wanted to put the effort in, it could turn out beautifully with a nice shine
If it were me, I'd go for it. Add a new wrap to the handle and polish the blade a bit and see where it takes you. The style is hard to come by for that price, and this one certainly has character as well.

For 40$ it looks like a good deal.
I have no doubt it's worth more, once it is cleaned up and honed.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 22New ones in Japan start from $200 these days, unless you are lucky enough to find them cheaper. So one with some actual character and history should be worth more.
Great find.
